The Flowery Petal

The Flowery Petal is a reflective poetic form, originating in The Order of Lofts. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into two to five septets and two couplets. Use of consonance is characteristic of the form. A form of parallelism is common throughout the poem, in that certain lines often contrast underlying meaning. Each line has ten syllables.

• The first part is intended to describe the past. Certain lines have similar grammatical structures. The sixth line of each septet must expand the idea of the fifth line.
• The second part is intended to move away from previous ideas concerning current events. Certain lines have similar grammatical structures. The second line of each couplet must expand the idea of the first line.
