The Crysoberyl Trench is a poetic riddle intended to express grief over mining originally devised by the halfling Ijath Resoluteshadow. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is a single sexain. Use of elision and vivid imagery is characteristic of the form.
