The Nutshell of Premeditating is a ribald poetic form intended to amuse the audience concerning a specific place, originating in The Doorstop of Spiny-Dogfishes. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is seven octets. Use of vivid imagery is characteristic of the form. Each line has four feet with a tone pattern of uneven-even. Every line of the poem has a terminal caesura. The eighth line of each octet uses the same placement of allusions as the fifth line. The seventh line of each octet must expand the idea of the fourth line.
