The Educational Heathers
The Educational Heathers is a dramatic poetic form, originating in The Government of Sports. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into three distinct parts: a tercet, another tercet and another tercet. Forms of parallelism are common throughout the poem, in that certain lines sometimes have reversed word orders and they reverse grammatical structures. Each line has twelve syllables. Every line of the poem has an initial caesura.
- The first part is intended to complain about the subject of the poem. The third line of the tercet is required to maintain the phrasing of the second line. The second line of the tercet must expand the idea of the first line.
- The second part is intended to develop the previous idea. Certain lines are required to maintain phrasing. The third line of the tercet must expand the idea of the first line.
- The third part is intended to move away from previous ideas. The third line of the tercet is required to maintain the phrasing of the first line. The second line of the tercet must expand the idea of the first line.
