The Girlish Vestibule

The Girlish Vestibule is a ribald poetic form intended to describe family, originating in The Race of Speech. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is two sexains. Use of assonance and epenthesis is characteristic of the form. Forms of parallelism are common throughout the poem, in that certain lines have similar grammatical structures and they reverse grammatical structures. Each line has six syllables. The sixth line of each sexain must expand the idea of the first line. The rhyme scheme of the poem is ABBACB.
