The Prurient Discernment is a solemn poetic form intended to amuse the audience, originating in The Staggering Table. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is a series of quintains. The Prurient Discernment is always written from the perspective of the author. Use of simile is characteristic of the form. The third line of each quintain shares the underlying meaning of the second line. The fourth line of each quintain reverses the word order of the second line. The fourth line of each quintain reverses the grammatical structure of the second line.
