The Sage of Pondering is a reflective poetic form intended to teach a moral lesson, originating in The Wavy Giant-Grouper. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is a single quatrain. Forms of parallelism are common throughout the poem, in that certain lines often share an underlying meaning and they use the same placement of allusions. Linguistic skill is required in the visual presentation as well, as The Sage of Pondering must feature lines which emerge when reading along certain prescribed paths across the body of the poem. Each line has three feet with a syllable weight pattern of short-long (quantitative iambic trimeter). The rhyme scheme of the poem is AABA.
