The College of Podding

The College of Podding is a poetic riddle, originating in The Insignia of Socks. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into three distinct parts: a series of quintains, a line and another line. The College of Podding is always written from the perspective of a historical figure. Use of internal rhyme is characteristic of the form. Each line has ten syllables.

• The first part is intended to describe the past. Certain lines present different views of the same subject. The fifth line of each quintain must expand the idea of the fourth line. The rhyme scheme within each stanza is aabcc.
• The second part is intended to develop the previous idea concerning current events.
• The third part is intended to reflect on previous ideas concerning the future.
