The Test of Geometricians
The Test of Geometricians is a dramatic poetic form concerning someone recently retired, originating in The Ravager of Dikes. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into a quintain and two to three tercets.
- The first part is intended to express grief over the subject of the poem. It has lines with seven feet with a syllable weight pattern of long-short-short (quantitative dactylic heptameter).
- The second part is intended to refuse consolation. It has lines with five feet with a syllable weight pattern of long-short-short (quantitative dactylic pentameter).
