The Emerald Tetrahedrite
The Emerald Tetrahedrite is a dramatic poetic form concerning mining, originating in The Lawmaker of Peanuts. The rules of the form are applied by poets to produce individual poems which can be recited. The poem is divided into three distinct parts: a couplet, a tercet and a sexain. Use of internal rhyme, symbolism, vivid imagery and juxtaposition is characteristic of the form.
- The first part is intended to make an assertion. Certain lines present different views of the same subject. The second line of the couplet must expand the idea of the first line. It has lines with five syllables. It has an initial caesura in each line. The rhyme scheme respecting the full poem is AA.
- The second part is intended to make a counter-assertion. Certain lines present different views of the same subject. The third line of the tercet must expand the idea of the first line. It has lines with seven syllables. It has a terminal caesura in each line. The rhyme scheme respecting the full poem is BBB.
- The third part is intended to synthesize previous ideas. Certain lines present different views of the same subject. The fourth line of the sexain must expand the idea of the third line. It has lines with nine syllables. It has an initial caesura in each line. The rhyme scheme within this stanza is aabbba.
