The Satyr of Drumbeats

The Satyr of Drumbeats is a form of music used to commemorate important events originally devised by the elf Uta Rhinoceroschrysocollas. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on one to five ocuqueve, a ovisaga and a fura. The musical voices bring melody with harmony. The entire performance is at a free tempo. The melody has long phrases throughout the form. The music is broadly layered with chords spanning the range. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to play arpeggios and play legato.

• Each ocuqueve always does harmony and should perform sweetly.
• The ovisaga always does the main melody and should be broad.
• The fura always does the main melody and should feel agitated.
• The Satyr of Drumbeats has the following structure: three to five unrelated passages and a coda.
• Each of the simple passages is to be moderately loud. The fura ranges from the wavering middle register to the warm high register.
• The coda is to be moderately soft. The fura covers its entire range from the rugged low register to the warm high register.
