The Euphonious Custard-Apple
The Euphonious Custard-apple is a form of music used during marches and military engagements originating in The Tireless Megalomania. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. A chanter recites nonsensical words and sounds while the music is played on a emxu. The music is melody and rhythm without harmony. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. Only one pitch is ever played at a time. The music repeats for as long as necessary. It is performed using the strob scale and in free rhythm.
- The chanter always does the main melody, should be strong and is to be loud. The voice ranges from the low register to the middle register.
- The emxu always should feel mournful and is to be moderately soft.
- The Euphonious Custard-apple has the following structure: a brief passage and a coda.
- The simple passage is voiced by the melody of the chanter reciting any composition of The Provable Emmer-grain and the rhythm of the emxu. The passage is moderately fast.
- The coda is voiced by the melody of the chanter reciting nonsensical words and sounds. The passage is slow.
- Scales are conceived of as two chords built using a division of the perfect fourth interval into eleven notes. The tonic note is a fixed tone passed from teacher to student. Preferred notes in the fundamental scale are named. The names are kestraruga (spoken ke, 1st), dot (do, 6th) and obst (obst, 7th).
- As always, the strob heptatonic scale is thought of as two disjoint chords drawn from the fundamental division of the perfect fourth. These chords are named zuxaz and sastospu.
- The zuxaz tetrachord is the 1st, the 6th, the 8th and the 11th degrees of the fundamental perfect fourth division.
- The sastospu tetrachord is the 1st, the 3rd, the 9th and the 11th degrees of the fundamental perfect fourth division.
