The Melodic Olive
The Melodic Olive is a form of music used for entertainment originating in The Temptation of Slobs. The form guides musicians during improvised performances. The music is played on a adbongdot and a sasmu. The musical voices bring melody with harmony. The melody has phrases of varied length throughout the form. It is performed using the gaxog scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, performers are to modulate frequently.
- The adbongdot always does the main melody, should evoke tears and glides from note to note.
- The sasmu always does harmony and should feel tender.
- The Melodic Olive has the following structure: one to two passages and an additional passage possibly all repeated.
- Each of the first simple passages is consistently slowing, and it is to be moderately soft. The adbongdot ranges from the wispy middle register to the pure high register. This passage features only melodic tones and intervals.
- The second simple passage gradually slows as it comes to an end, and it is to be soft. The adbongdot ranges from the fragile low register to the wispy middle register. Chords are packed close together in dense clusters in this passage.
- Scales are constructed from twelve notes spaced evenly throughout the octave. The tonic note is a fixed tone passed from teacher to student.
- The gaxog heptatonic scale is thought of as two disjoint chords spanning two perfect fourths. These chords are named nadu and bagurod.
- The nadu tetrachord is the 1st, the 2nd, the 4th and the 6th degrees of the semitone octave scale.
- The bagurod tetrachord is the 8th, the 9th, the 12th and the 13th (completing the octave) degrees of the semitone octave scale.
