The Occult Disarmament
The Occult Disarmament is a devotional form of music directed toward the worship of Iti originating in The President of Sanctifying. The form guides musicians during improvised performances. A chanter recites nonsensical words and sounds. The melody has short phrases throughout the form. Only one pitch is ever played at a time. It is performed using the toipe scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, performers are to play rapid runs and locally improvise.
- The chanter always does the main melody and should feel mysterious. The voice uses its entire range.
- The Occult Disarmament has a simple structure: a passage.
- The simple passage is very slow, and it is to be very soft. The passage should sometimes include a rising-falling melody pattern with arpeggios.
- Scales are constructed from twenty-four notes spaced evenly throughout the octave. The tonic note is fixed only at the time of performance.
- The toipe pentatonic scale is constructed by selection of degrees from the fundamental scale. The degrees selected are the 1st, the 6th, the 10th, the 15th and the 22nd.
