The Rice of Peaches
The Rice of Peaches is a form of music used during marches and military engagements originating in The Fiend of Evoking. The form guides musicians during improvised performances. A chanter recites any composition of The Indivisible Fatality while the music is played on a kongurod. The music is melody and rhythm without harmony. The entire performance is to be very loud. The melody has mid-length phrases throughout the form. Only one pitch is ever played at a time. It is performed in the tus rhythm. Throughout, when possible, performers are to syncopate and alternate tension and repose.
- The chanter always does the main melody and should perform with feeling.
- The kongurod always should feel mysterious.
- The Rice of Peaches has a well-defined multi-passage structure: a theme, an exposition of the theme, a bridge-passage, a recapitulation of the theme and a lengthy coda.
- The theme is voiced by the melody of the chanter and the rhythm of the kongurod. The passage is very fast. The chanter's voice covers its entire range. The passage is performed using the nadu scale.
- The exposition is voiced by the melody of the chanter and the rhythm of the kongurod. The passage accelerates as it proceeds. The chanter's voice stays in the high register. The passage is performed using the daxst scale.
- The bridge-passage is voiced by the melody of the chanter and the rhythm of the kongurod. The passage slows and broadens. The chanter's voice ranges from the low register to the middle register. The passage is performed using the zuxaz scale.
- The recapitulation is voiced by the melody of the chanter and the rhythm of the kongurod. The passage is at a hurried pace. The chanter's voice ranges from the middle register to the high register. The passage is performed using the ozzok scale.
- The coda is voiced by the melody of the chanter. The passage is moderately paced. The chanter's voice ranges from the low register to the middle register. The passage is performed using the gaxog scale.
- Scales are constructed from twenty notes dividing the octave. In quartertones, their spacing is roughly 1x-xx-xx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxxO, where 1 is the tonic, O marks the octave and x marks other notes. The tonic note is a fixed tone passed from teacher to student. Every note is named. The names are axslor (spoken ax), bagurod (ba), sastospu (sa), assna (as), xuzestra (xu), roxstat (ro), tekug (te), odo (od), obungasnu (ob), strob (stro), kestraruga (ke), dot (do), obst (obst), omuslone (om), gul (gu), xedludutoka (xe), luz (lu), orustrur (or), snas (sna) and ulong (ul).
- The nadu pentatonic scale is constructed by selection of degrees from the fundamental scale. The degrees selected are the 1st, the 5th, the 7th, the 14th and the 19th.
- The daxst pentatonic scale is constructed by selection of degrees from the fundamental scale. The degrees selected are the 1st, the 3rd, the 9th, the 13th and the 15th.
- The zuxaz heptatonic scale is constructed by selection of degrees from the fundamental scale. The degrees selected are the 1st, the 4th, the 7th, the 11th, the 14th, the 15th and the 19th.
- The ozzok heptatonic scale is constructed by selection of degrees from the fundamental scale. The degrees selected are the 1st, the 4th, the 8th, the 11th, the 12th, the 18th and the 20th.
- The gaxog hexatonic scale is constructed by selection of degrees from the fundamental scale. The degrees selected are the 1st, the 4th, the 7th, the 11th, the 12th and the 15th.
- The tus rhythm is made from two patterns: the doram and the ellusmesmuk. The patterns are to be played over the same period of time, concluding together regardless of beat number.
- The doram rhythm is a single line with four beats. The beat is stressed as follows:
- | x x`- - |
- where ` marks a beat as early, x is a beat, - is silent and | indicates a bar.
- The ellusmesmuk rhythm is a single line with twenty-four beats divided into six bars in a 4-4-4-4-4-4 pattern. The beat is stressed as follows:
- | - x x - | x x X x | x - - - | - x - - | - - - x | - - x - |
- where X marks an accented beat, x is a beat, - is silent and | indicates a bar.
