The Dwarven Radish-Plant

The Dwarven Radish-plant is a devotional form of music directed toward the worship of Musm Starlitserpents originating in The Splattered Orcas. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. Three chanters recite nonsensical words and sounds while the music is played on a oyali. The musical voices join in melody, counterpoint and harmony. The entire performance is at a free tempo, and it is to be very loud. The melody has long phrases, while the counterpoint has mid-length phrases throughout the form. Never more than an interval sounds at once. It is performed without preference for a scale and in free rhythm. Throughout, when possible, composers and performers are to alternate tension and repose.

• Each chanter always should be lively. The voice uses its entire range.
• The oyali always should be vigorous and plays arpeggios.
• The Dwarven Radish-plant has the following structure: three to five unrelated passages and a lengthy coda.
• Each of the simple passages is voiced by the melody of the oyali and the harmony of the chanters reciting nonsensical words and sounds. Each passage should be composed and performed using mordents and rapid runs.
• The coda is voiced by the melody of the chanters reciting nonsensical words and sounds and the counterpoint of the oyali. The passage should be composed and performed using rapid runs.
