The Empirical Sapience
The Empirical Sapience is a devotional form of music directed toward the worship of Ifimkeb Solutionacorn originating in The Pincers of Moving. The rules of the form are applied by composers to produce individual pieces of music which can be performed. The music is played on a iconsob, a izden and a izesos. The musical voices bring melody, counterpoint and rhythm. The entire performance should feel mysterious, and it is to be very loud. The melody and counterpoint both have short phrases throughout the form. Pitches are densely packed in clusters as music moves from chord to chord. It is performed using the toker scale and in free rhythm.
- The Empirical Sapience has a well-defined multi-passage structure: an introduction, a brief theme, an exposition of the theme, a bridge-passage and a brief recapitulation of the theme.
- The introduction is voiced by the melody of the izden and the melody of the izesos. The passage is very fast. The izden covers its entire range from the piercing low register to the watery high register and the izesos ranges from the low register to the middle register.
- The theme is voiced by the melody of the izden, the rhythm of the iconsob and the rhythm of the izesos. The passage is moderately fast. The izden ranges from the piercing low register to the harsh middle register and the izesos ranges from the low register to the middle register.
- The exposition is voiced by the melody of the izesos, the counterpoint of the izden and the rhythm of the iconsob. The passage is extremely fast. The izesos ranges from the low register to the middle register and the izden ranges from the piercing low register to the harsh middle register.
- The bridge-passage is voiced by the melody of the izesos and the rhythm of the izden. The passage is half the tempo of the last passage. The izesos stays in the crisp low register and the izden stays in the harsh middle register.
- The recapitulation is voiced by the melody of the izesos and the rhythm of the izden. The passage is at a free tempo. The izesos ranges from the crisp middle register to the dull high register and the izden covers its entire range from the piercing low register to the watery high register.
- Scales are conceived of as two chords built using a division of the perfect fourth interval into eight notes. The tonic note is a fixed tone passed from teacher to student.
- As always, the toker hexatonic scale is thought of as two disjoint chords drawn from the fundamental division of the perfect fourth. These chords are named vallal and stat.
- The vallal tetrachord is the 1st, the 3rd, the 4th and the 8th degrees of the fundamental perfect fourth division.
- The stat trichord is the 1st, the 5th and the 8th degrees of the fundamental perfect fourth division.
