The Apple of Sprigs
The Apple of Sprigs is a social group dance originating in The Longing Country. The form guides dancers during improvised performances. The dance is accompanied by any composition of The Melodic Berry. The dancers perform loosely mingled, moving quickly with the music. The dance is elaborate.
- The dance begins with the first theme of the music. The dancers perform along an improvised path, moving to the oruslumcopo rhythm. This sinuous section is punctuated by refined kicks, soft clockwise eighth turns and spirited independent body movement, with movement shadowed by group members.
- The dance enters a new section with the exposition of the first theme of the music. This strong intense section is punctuated by undulating counterclockwise quarter turns performed in retrograde by group members, raised right arms and powerful arm carriage.
- The dance enters a new section with the second theme of the music. The dancers perform turning counterclockwise, moving to the udal rhythm. This proud sinuous section is punctuated by high body level, low leaps and forward bends.
- The dance enters a new section with the exposition of the second theme of the music. This twisting joyous section is punctuated by independent body movement and sensual hand gestures.
- The dance enters a new section with the bridge-passage of the music. The dancers perform along an intricate path. This sprightly section is punctuated by twisting body level changes and aggressive hand gestures.
- The dance enters a new section with the synthesis of the music. The dancers perform to the ujel rhythm. This straight-lined section is punctuated by joyous left leg lifts, flamboyant hand gestures and refined clockwise half turns, with movement mirrored by group members.
