The Cymose Stamen
The Cymose Stamen is a performance partner dance originating in The Roguish Hierarchy. The rules of the form are applied by choreographers to produce individual dances which can be performed. The dance is accompanied by The Vinous Lentil. The dancers perform in several lines, moving slowly with the music. There are partner changes throughout the dance with the lead turning out clockwise. The dance is punctuated by high body level and undulating hand gestures, with large moves.
- The dance begins with the introduction of the music. The partners maintain open contact, communicating intent by pulling away briefly. This undulating section is punctuated by the grotesque independent body movement of the lead and raised left arms.
- The dance enters a new section with the passage of the music. The dancers perform to the kiki rhythm. The partners maintain open contact, communicating intent by pushing together. There is a basic movement called the qapo. There is a series of eight sprightly steps in a square pattern. This section is elaborate.
